Senior Representative’s Message – Kenny Findlay
Firstly, I would like to mention the passing of a Seniors stalwart and original “codger” Gordon Whyte who sadly and suddenly passed in January, he is sorely missed.
One trophy that has already been decided is the winter competition for the Buttery Bowl. This is awarded for the aggregate of best scores from 4 rounds Stableford. (from 15 rounds this year.)
Winner – Kenny Cowe with 174 points
Runner Up – Doug Crighton 162 points
Season is now in full swing with around 35 players entering the Monday Comps and hopefully all paying their sweeps, the Westfield and Bethelnie Trophies are now up for grabs!
A total of 40 entered the 1st Handicap Qualifier on Monday which is great to see. Phil White is leading with a nett 67. Kenny Cowe in second place with a matching score.
The Scratch Qualifier was played the week earlier in difficult conditions off the 61 tees and Ian Forman is currently leading with a 77 and Lenny Sutherland in second place with a 79.
Phil got off to a great start with a 7-1 triumph over Turriff in the first of the seniors matches but unfortunately the team at Edzell fell to a 51/2 -21/2 loss, it’s always hard to get a result away from MH. Team sheets are still open for May fixtures, always good to see different names offering to represent the club in these great “Friendly” matches, but we do like to win.!!
This year’s outings to Castle Stuart for the Seniors Shield and Lossie for the Treasurers Trophy are now fully subscribed with 16 and a sub for Castle Stuart and 28 for Lossie which is a great turnout, hopefully the weather plays fair for us.
Looking forward to another great season of golf at MHGC, let’s hope the weather is similar to last year, and I am sure Kenny Harper and his team will have the course in immaculate condition as usual.
Kenny Findlay
