Balmedie Beach

A short drive from Meldrum House lies one of Aberdeenshire's most dramatic stretches of coast. Balmedie Beach forms part of a fourteen-mile run of golden sand and dunes along the North Sea, with some of the largest dune systems in the UK rising just behind the shoreline.

Boardwalks lead out through the grasses to wide, open sands where walkers, runners and dog owners can roam for miles with barely another soul in sight. Keep an eye on the water for seals, and further along the coast, the Ythan Estuary and Forvie National Nature Reserve offer even wilder terrain for those wanting to extend the trip.

Whether it's a bracing walk before breakfast or a change of pace between rounds of golf, Balmedie is an easy and rewarding addition to any stay.
