Chipping
Four points to help your short game - Toe-out your target-side foot
- Keep your arms relaxed
- Weight favours the target foot at address
- Weight moves even more onto left foot during the swing and at finish of stroke
Keeping your arms relaxed is important to encourage feel during the shot and help with the tempo of the shot.
The last point is one that many handicap golfers fail to accomplish. They manage to start with the weight in the correct place but as they take their swing at the ball, instinct takes over to help the ball into the air. This means weight drifts onto the back foot, leading to the ground being hit before the ball.
Practising chipping off a downhill lie can help you get the feeling of the weight drifting forward on these shots.
